About two and a half years on November 25th, 2019, I met the love of my life. I just knew something about this day was special. I woke up feeling great, everything seemed to be going right, and I was just on cloud nine. At the time I was working at Saint Louis Bread Co., where Jalen would come in from time to time for tea or lunch. I had noticed him previous times, but we never interacted until this day. He came in and I took his order, a chai tea latte as usual. The interaction was very friendly, organic, and genuine. I was definitely impressed by his demeanor, and it didn't hurt that he was cute too lol. Anyway, I went on and low and behold, hours later he's back again. This time he's not in line, but waiting to the side for the line to go down. Immediately, I knew exactly what was going on. I finished up with my last customer, he approaches the counter, a bit bashful but yet confident at the same time, and lets me know how much he appreciated my customer service and kindness. He then handed me a small blue post-it note with his name and number on it. Of course, I was interested but also apprehensive after finally coming out of a rough season in my life around that time. However, I felt the peace of God and knew even then that he was different; he was special. The next morning I texted him, and the rest has been history. There hasn't been a day since we met that we haven't talked, and I wouldn't have imagined then that this person I just met at work would one day become my husband. As I reflect and look back on that time, I am so thankful to God for allowing us to cross paths, to become best friends, and to develop a love so strong and deep for one another. I couldn't ask for a more amazing, kind, patient, loving, caring, intelligent, genuine, intentional, generous, and thoughtful person to spend the rest of my life with. That day was truly one of the best days of my life, and I am forever grateful to God for leading me to my person. --- Kayla Johnson aka Future Mrs. Scott ❤️
Early on, Kayla and I both knew we wanted to tie the knot, so I had already been brainstorming on how to pop the question. One day, we were browsing an outlet mall and came across “Selfie WRLD,” and I noticed how much she took a liking to having our own personal photo shoot. In the past, she said she wanted lots of photos to be taking during our engagement so naturally, I merged the two ideas to create the experience we’d come to cherish for a lifetime. Fast forwarding to the big day, we had plans to tour the location for our engagement pictures that would inevitably be happening soon, she just didn’t know how real it would become later that night. Looking back, I smile at those tender moments we shared, visualizing ourselves taking beautiful photos as an engaged couple, knowing that in a few hours the journey would be officially started. The evening was now upon us and we were heading to the venue for the surprising occasion. To be truthful, there was some nervousness present but that was overshadowed by my focus to execute the plan. I have to say, it would not have been possible if it weren’t for Shay being the person of contact for me, helping organize our family and friend to bring that vision together. We arrived at the location and the suspense was building as we walked into the venue, but I was determined to follow the course. However, everything became surreal and peaked as I found myself down on one knee in front of the love of my life. At this moment, I uttered my prepared words of endearment through jitters and butterflies, and presented the ring. She responded with the word that would change my life forever, “Yes!” ---Jalen Scott
