From Tay's Perspective: I first met my baby, Kayla, at Target when I was working at Pizza Hut and had to train her. At the time, it just felt like a regular day—I didn’t think much of it. But I do remember thinking she was fine, and her smile stood out right away. She was always smiling too, which I liked lol! I didn’t realize back then that she was going to be my wife, but I wish I did, because she’ll tell you she already knew. She still reminds me to this day how many years deep we could’ve been by now. Crazy how something so normal turned into everything. I’m just grateful it did. From Kay's Perspective: I still remember the day I met Deontay like it was yesterday. He was my trainer at Target—the very first person I was introduced to. And I’m not even gonna lie… the moment I saw him, I thought to myself, if his personality matches his face, he's going to be mine. After getting to know him, I told my mama, “I met my husband.” I knew it. Every shift we worked together, I was doing my best to let him know I was feeling him—channeling my inner Alicia Keys moves, "I always use some milk and cream for you, cause I think you're kinda sweet"-- but he wasn't catching on AT ALL because nothing happened. Not then, not anytime soon. The closest thing to him reciprocating was him still visiting me after he quit Target. Even with that, it actually took SEVEN years before he finally made his move. Seven. Years. (& to this day, I never let him forget it. I always remind him we could’ve been 10 years deep by now if he had caught on a little sooner.) But honestly, looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Because when it finally happened, it was right, it was real, and it was worth the wait. From the jump God told me I met my husband—and all those years later, he finally figured it out too.
