Mexico uses the peso as currency where the exchange rate is usually close to 20 Pesos to 1 US Dollar. A good mental trick to do a quick conversion is to remember that 100 Pesos is about $5 USD. The US Dollar is widely accepted throughout the country but you’ll usually be penalized with a less than favorable exchange rate if you attempt to pay with dollars. The most convenient way to buy pesos when you're already in Mexico is by using ATMs. You will often receive the best exchange rate, even though you have to pay a service fee every time you withdraw. We’ll usually try to pull out pesos only a few times during a trip in larger quantities to avoid getting hit with service fees repeatedly. Your best bet are the ATMs inside the Intercam bank on Calle Revolucion as you come into town, across from the Police station. You can also use your credit card at most establishments and depending on your card, will pay up to 3% in foreign transaction fees.

It’s not recommended to drink tap water in Mexico. Many rental homes have water purification systems, or provide bottled water for their guests. The restaurants and bars in Sayulita use purified water for drinking, washing produce, and the ice is made from purified water as well, so no need to be nervous about ice in your margarita

Sayulita has small markets, called tiendas, where you can find most basic items. There is an abundance of fruit/vegetable stands, although you may not be able to find everything you need all at one tienda. If you need toiletries, sunscreen, aloe vera, etc.. you can find everything you might require at a local pharmacy/farmacia.

Not really. Walking has always been our primary mode of transportation and it only takes about 15 minutes to walk from one side of town to the other. There are several establishments that rent out golf carts in Sayulita which we definitely recommend if hoofing it isn’t your cup of horchata. We recommend Riviera Golf Cart Rentals (hyperlink below) which rents golf carts out for between $50 and $75 per day. You can ask them to deliver the golf cart to your AirBnB or hotel but you’ll likely have to pay in pesos vs. using a credit card if you go that route.
