I had my eyes on Cleve from the start. In college, we both played ultimate frisbee at The University of South Carolina. If you know Cleve, you know that he loves anything that involves a game, competition, and being active. And that is exactly what Cleve did. For my first couple of years on the team, Cleve showed little interest. My pals, Hannah and Ramey, kept trying to convince me that he was into me "because Cleve doesn't talk to any other girls." Eventually, I asked his roommate at the time, Michael Miller, what Cleve's deal was. Without hesitation, he invites Cleve over to my house to watch a movie. A few minutes later, we had our first date (yes, it all happened this fast). This was just the beginning of our adventures together. We spent COVID quarantined together, and then Cleve moved out to Albuquerque. After making it through over a year of long distance, we bought a house and have enjoyed traveling and spending time with our friends in Columbia.
Our first date was a movie where we watched Bull Durham, my choice. From there we started spending more time together. We had common interests in activities such as tennis, volleyball, and of course ultimate frisbee. I even got her to start playing golf. When we first started dating the pandemic had just started and everything shutdown. This is where we really got to know each other. One thing I remember during those first few months of dating was going on picnics on campus at USC. Spending quality time and being fully present with no one else but Kayla on the Horseshoe is etched in my memory of our early days together. Fast forward 5 years since that spring and the journey with Kayla has been life-changing. We have both grown as individuals through the years because of the support from one another. The story is still in its infancy and I am excited for the future I have with Kayla.
