Making it officially official

Kayla was 17, Chris was 28. One night while Kayla was visiting her parents home in Newberry, her dad, brought Chris home to introduce him to Kayla and her Mom. Darryl, Kayla’s dad had retired as an Inkster Police Officer and was working as a Newberry Police Officer. Chris was a relatively new State Trooper. Little did they know the instant attraction would take 17 years to become known. Fast forward those 17 years of Chris and Kayla living their own separate lives, learning about love and loss to be brought together again under some of the worst circumstances. In 2017, Kayla’s dad became suddenly gravely sick and died in a matter of a few weeks. Kayla was able to rely on Chris, (as he had always stayed a close friend to Darryl) for all of the necessary logistics and emotions one goes through when they lose a loved one. Several months and plenty of chats later, Chris asked Donna (Kayla’s mom) if he could court (date) Kayla. And so it began………

Chris had always told Kayla he had a proposal all planned out. It is very hard to surprise Kayla and yet, Chris created the ultimate surprise. Kayla was in Newberry with Emma and Chris visiting her mom for the weekend. Chris was to meet Kayla and Emma at her moms for dinner that night. While enjoying a perfect U.P summer evening they heard a police siren coming up the road. It was Chris, dressed in his State Trooper uniform and in the patrol car. Kayla was dumbfounded and met him on the porch to ask what was going on. Chris was down on one knee and explained to Kayla this is where and how they met 22 years ago on that very porch in the presence of her mom and dad. Chris explained while her dad couldn’t be there to witness, he felt this was the most appropriate place to ask and that her dad would have approved. Chris took a beautiful black diamond ring out from his sock and with tears, asked Kayla to be his forever. Kayla said “yes! Of course”. **Chris and Kayla married on July 25th, 2022 in the presence of a very small group of loved ones. This time, in June, Dave (Kayla’s step dad) will marry them with the religious ceremony they desire surrounded by all family and friends to celebrate. **
