Caleb and I met in the fall of 2015 at Word of Life Bible Institute and it was anything but love at first sight. We were both put on the same singing team that school year and we were both far from impressed with each other. We both later admitted we were very intimidated by the other person... how classic, right? In December of 2015 we began to form a really great friendship which led to us becoming best friends. We had so much fun together. We often joked about us being a terrible match and that we would never work out as a couple. Well, April Fool's of 2016 we played a joke on our close friends that we were dating... we thought it was genius.. only problem was that everybody believed us. After that 'joke' ended both of us started to think about the possibility of having a relationship with the other person but I personally shut that idea down real quick. I didn't want to lose my friendship with him. But I brought him out to meet my family over Mother's Day weekend I realized something. That I did indeed like him. A lot actually. And that we could make a good couple. That was both so exciting and so terrifying. But I kept it all to myself and waited to see what happened. Not too long after that trip, Caleb told me he had feelings for me as well and that we should take things slow and seek what the Lord had for us in this potential relationship. And we did and it was awesome. And then in July of 2016 he asked me to be his girlfriend and I happily agreed to date my best friend :)
Caleb and I have been long distance for about a year now and I was out visiting him in late July and Tuesday of that week we spent all day shopping and hanging out about an hour away from where Caleb lives. All day he had been acting kinda strange. He has never been the guy to be texting all day on his phone while we are out doing stuff, but he was on his phone a LOT that day. He told me that we needed to go check out this field for a church event that he was helping run later this summer and that we really needed to check out that night. We were on our way back from shopping and Caleb was taking forever to get back to this field. I was super tired and had a headache and Caleb kept stalling and asking if I wanted to do more shopping. I honestly just wanted to go back to his house and watch Netflix but Caleb was set on checking out this field. We arrived at the field just before sunset and he was asking me where he thought they should put different tents and whatnot. I was totally focused on where to place tents and getting out of this field and back home asap. And then he was said, "Oh what is that? Does this farmer have a stand up here?" I saw the top of a white tent thing and I could have cared less but Caleb really wanted to check it out so we walked up to see it, but as we got closer it wasn't a farm stand.. it was a gorgeous arbor decorated with white fabric and a beautiful picnic was set up. I began to realize what was about to happen and I immediately started to tear up. He had recreated our favorite (and first) date which was an elegant picnic. There was a black box on the table and Caleb reached for it and then got down on one knee and said something really cute and I really wish I could remember it but I was crying so much I can't remember what he said other than, "Will you be my wife?" And of course, I said yes. I was totally surprised (which it is really hard to surprise me) and the entire proposal was perfect and lovely. He nailed it.
Currently, Caleb and I are long distance, and will be until our wedding in January. Caleb is an administrative pastor at a wonderful church in Morrill, Maine. After our wedding in January, I will move up here with him and start our lives together in Maine! The Lord has generously provided a place for us to live and make our home. We are so excited to begin our lives together as husband and wife!
