It was a quiet night at McGettigan’s on 36th street, where Kayla worked as a waitress. A particularly boring night, until her regular, Jimmy, walked in with two friends in tow. The guys were there to cheer Jimmy up and Kayla couldn’t help but butt in. They were talking relationships, and as the conversation deepened, she got more and more involved and Avi—one of the friends—began to notice that their values aligned. He also found himself enchanted by Kayla's laugh and captivating smile. She made quite an impression on him, but when the bill was paid and it was time to leave, he walked out without looking back. Jimmy wasn’t having it. He convinced Avi to walk back in and get her number. To this day, Avi says it’s the best thing he ever did. Even though it took Kayla over four months to come around and ask him to, “finally be her boyfriend already.”
