Our Story

Kayla and Arie first met during the summer of Kayla’s internship in Arizona. What started as a simple hello quickly turned into hiking dates, long conversations, and the kind of laughter that made it clear something special was happening. By their second date — a trail adventure complete with too many snacks and Kayla sharing quirky childhood stories — they both had the feeling this was the start of something real. That summer was filled with little adventures, becoming foodies, and spending time with both of their extended families. When it ended, the two braved long distance, trading off visits between Arizona and Michigan. Arie even met Kayla’s family the week before her sister’s wedding — where he fit in instantly (and was invited back for the big day a week later). Over the years, both partners became an integral member of the others family. Arie teaching Kayla’s brother about the wonderful world of sazon, making cruise memories, Dairy Twist nights, family walks, and playing Julie's Minute-to-Win-It games. Meanwhile, Kayla learned to play dominos (and eventually beating Arie at his own game), never turning down anything her father-in-law puts on the table, and loudly sings Queen at karaoke nights. Arie, Kayla, and Carmel eventually moved to Minnesota for Arie's first (and last) real winter before settling down in Florida. Days now include home projects, boat rides to watch dolphins, and time with their sweet pups — first Carmel, and now Cielo, who bring endless joy into their lives. The proposal came during a trip to Japan, on the very first day of a two-week adventure. Arie wanted them to spend the entire trip engaged. Although when they got to the spot, the bridge he planned to propose on was closed for construction for the day. After some quick thinking, he popped the question at a different bridge with a quiet crossing we stumbled across. Kayla, completely surprised, forgot to actually say “yes” at first, instead asking over and over, “Really? You really want to marry me?” (Spoiler: he did!) If we had to describe our relationship in three words, they would be: playful, dynamic, and growing. From travel and home improvement projects to boat rides and big adventures, every moment together has been a gift — and we can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter surrounded by the people who mean the most to us!
