FAQs

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Our wedding will take place in the middle of summer, so we want our guests to feel cool, comfortable, and relaxed while still honoring the respectful setting of the church ceremony. We recommend light, breathable semi-formal or island-formal attire. The ceremony at Saint Elizabeth Parish will be indoors with light air conditioning, while the reception in Waimanalo will be outdoors during sunset. Guests are welcome to change between the ceremony and reception if they would like to be more comfortable for the evening celebration. Please also keep in mind that the reception will take place on grass, so we recommend flats, sandals, wedges, or other comfortable footwear, as narrow heels may sink into the ground.

Question

Will there be an open bar?

Answer

Yes! We will be hosting an open bar during the reception with a selection of personalized cocktails, as well as beer, wine, soda, and water available throughout the evening. When submitting your RSVP, please indicate whether you plan on enjoying alcoholic beverages so we can plan accordingly. Most importantly, the safety of our guests and loved ones is very important to us. Because the reception is a longer drive for many guests, we kindly encourage everyone to drink responsibly and consider arranging a designated driver, carpooling, or ride accommodations if planning to enjoy alcoholic beverages.

Question

Are children invited?

Answer

Due to the limited number of guests our venue can accommodate, children (including adult children) are not included in the reception invitation unless specifically listed. Only immediate family children will be attending the reception. However, we completely understand that childcare arrangements are not always possible. If you are unable to find childcare or do not feel comfortable leaving your little one, please communicate with us. We would be more than happy to work something out with you! Please also know that all family, including children, are welcome to attend the wedding ceremony at Saint Elizabeth Parish. We would love for families to join us in celebrating in God’s home.

Question

Why is there a gap between the ceremony and reception?

Answer

We do recognize that this is a longer day, with the ceremony beginning at 11:00 AM and the reception beginning at 5:00 PM. The ceremony is held earlier in the day to accommodate the parish schedule and allow the church to prepare for evening Mass on Saturdays. This gap also allows our families and guests time to rest, refresh, and travel safely to the reception without feeling rushed. It also gives us, as newlyweds, a brief moment to recoup and spend some quiet time together before the celebration continues. We understand this is a longer break in the day, and Zola separates the ceremony and reception into two RSVP events so we can better plan for attendance at each part of our celebration. While we sincerely hope everyone can join us for both, we completely understand that everyone has different circumstances and schedules, and we are grateful for any time you are able to celebrate with us.

Question

Why did you choose Saint Elizabeth Parish for your wedding ceremony?

Answer

Saint Elizabeth Parish has truly become a second home to us. In October of 2025, we began returning to the Church together as a family, and it marked a deeply meaningful turning point in our lives and faith. Kayla felt called to begin her walk with Christ after a life-changing year in 2025, and this parish has been a beautiful part of that journey. For Alika, Saint Elizabeth has always held a special place in his heart, as he grew up attending this church with his family and received both Baptism and First Holy Communion here as a child. Continuing that faith and foundation in Christ for our daughter, Journey, is incredibly important to both of us, especially since she was baptized by Father Sebastian on March 8, 2026, a truly unforgettable and grace-filled moment for our family. Over the past several months, we have grown close with the priests, deacons, sisters, and parishioners, and we deeply cherish this community. Alika also regularly sings and plays bass with the choir at the 12:00 PM Sunday Mass, which has made the parish feel even more like home. Looking back on our long engagement, we sometimes wondered why it took so long to set our date. But during our conversations with Father Sebastian about marriage, it became clear to us that God had known all along the right time and place for us to be united in His presence.

Question

What should I expect for a Catholic wedding ceremony?

Answer

Our wedding will be celebrated as a Nuptial Mass. The ceremony will include the Introductory Rites, the Liturgy of the Word (two readings and a Gospel), a homily from the priest, and the Celebration of Matrimony. The Mass will conclude with the Liturgy of the Eucharist. It will be a beautiful and sacred moment for us to exchange our vows before God, surrounded by our family and friends, and we are so grateful to share this meaningful celebration with you.

Question

What time should I arrive for the ceremony?

Answer

We kindly ask guests to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. Please allow yourself enough time to park, get settled, and become comfortable in God’s house before the ceremony begins.

Question

Is the reception indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The reception will be held outdoors in beautiful Waimanalo on a lush, green property with stunning mountain views. Since we are getting married in the middle of July, we anticipate warmer temperatures earlier in the evening, but it should gradually cool down as the sun sets and the night continues.

Question

Will food and drinks be served at the reception?

Answer

Of course! Cocktail hour will begin at 5:00 PM with light pūpūs and an open bar, followed by dinner and ending the evening with light desserts. We’re looking forward to a night full of delicious food, refreshing drinks, and lots of laughter with all of our favorite people!

Question

Is parking available at the ceremony and reception?

Answer

Yes! There will be plenty of parking available at both the ceremony and reception venues.
