Kayla and Matt originally met while attending Junior High in Kingman, AZ. Clearly they didn't know how much they loved each other, because they lost touch! Fast forward to 2012 when Matt returned home from the Navy and Kayla from NAU, and they were reconnected through mutual friends. Kayla put Matt in the friend zone for quite some time, until he officially asked to turn their friendship into a courtship on March 23, 2013, while night fishing together at South Cove. Their love blossomed over the years and eventually, during archery deer season, Matt popped the question. With the help of Kayla's Dad, Jeff, Matt had setup a 'Marry Me?' sign on the side of a hill. Then, as they were out "hunting" Matt forced Kayla to get out of the truck, where she was taking cover from the cold rain and enjoying a Snickers bar, so that she could look at a "deer" that they had spotted through the binoculars he had setup on a tripod. Much to Kayla's surprise, she wasn't looking at a deer but rather words - words that she had mistakenly read at first and wondered who the heck would have put up a Merry Christmas sign on that hill? When she realized what the sign really said, she turned to Matt, and with her classic Kayla smile, she said..."Are you serious?" and then, after the shock had eased and getting the supportive nod from her Dad who was giggling off to the side, she whispered the long awaited "YES!"
