Kayd and Kalie both attended Kansas State University but their paths didn't cross until after they graduated. Their first date was on an autumn Sunday in Kansas City, better known as Chiefs game day. Kayd must have thought Kalie was worth it to schedule a brunch date during a football game. He sported his favorite Chiefs jersey and watched the game behind Kalie's head while she talked about her recent trip to Europe. They ended up having much more in common than being K-State alum. It turned out that both of their families had deep roots in Nebraska and they even held Husker football season tickets in the same section. They spent the next few hours chatting about their dogs, their friends from college, and their love for Jeopardy until they departed ways. Kayd lived in Kansas City at the time and traveled for work. Kalie lived in Oklahoma City and attended physician assistant school. Many of their dates those first years were spent in different places. From Okoboji, Iowa to Boston, Massachusetts - the two met up wherever they could.

Following Kalie’s graduation from PA school, Kayd joined her and her family on a vacation to Ireland. He wasn’t prepared to return to America with a fiancée but after some late-night conversations with Kalie’s brothers around a bottle of Jameson, Kayd decided there would not be a better, more meaningful place to propose to Kalie. After Kalie's dad approved, Kayd went ring shopping in Galway’s city center and proposed the following day on top of the Cliffs of Moher.

The couple is now preparing for their marriage in the Catholic church. They cannot wait to celebrate their love and unity with their family and friends in August. After their honeymoon they will begin their first home search, but more importantly their first dog(s) search.
