How it Started

September 20, 2017

Austin and I met at Granite Arch Climbing Center. my brother Dallas signed up to rock climb for the semester and Austin just so happened to be the coach. He said the moment I walked in, I caught his eye and I was immediately drawn to him. We both liked each other, neither one of us knowing. The next 12 weeks were filled with smiles, nervous interactions, and Austin standing awkwardly close to me. On the last day he offered for my FAM to come climb with him, odd, but we had gotten to know him so we took him up on the offer! We had more conversations that day and at the end exchanged a quick side hug. On Christmas day we started messaging through Facebook and since then they have been non-stop! Towards the end of December my family was doing a puzzle and Austin said he loves puzzles (we found out later that was not true)! With some convincing from my mom, I invited him over and that night the whole family stayed up until 4 in the morning playing games, eating food, and having fun. When he was leaving he asked for my number and a little bit later asked me out! That night we gave each other a real hug and went on our first date 2 days later on January 1, 2018. The next year and a half was filled with tons of learning, lots of adventures, and has led us to where we are now....getting married!! From the beginning we have known God wrote our story so beautifully and we are so excited for what He has planned for us!

The Proposal

September 11, 2019

September 11, 2019. The day I proposed. The proposal was planned around a beautiful red dress that she had previously thought she would get proposed in. She was convinced that she would not get asked for a long while. Needless to say, she had major attitude leading up to this point. While she was in a meeting earlier that day, I was making preparations for the big moment at the park across the street of her house. I utilized the use of her family for the set up process. Her dad helped string lights on the bridge prior while her mom and sister placed the lanterns, table, sign, and ring during our walk. When she got home, we went on that short walk, attitude in full affect. We sat at an amphitheater close by to read in Ephesians 5. Her radar started going off at this point. She thought “maybe he might”, but quickly realized once the study was over that it was all in her head. The walk back was quiet. As we are walking back everything was in place. Her family was kinda hiding behind a tree waiting for the code word “Isn't this cute.” The moment that she knew what was going on, the smile on her face would not go away. She was stunning. We approached the bridge, two lanterns at its base signifying our past and present. I hugged her, Bibles in hand, and walked to the third lantern representing our future on the center of the bridge. Sitting on it was the ring. I grabbed it, got down on one knee. Both of us could not stop moving with excitement. I asked her “Kayla, will you be my wife?” Without hesitation, she replied “Yes!” That moment that changed our lives forever. God is good.
