Travel Note
The first step to getting to Haines is to fly into Juneau! We recommend scheduling your flight into Juneau to align with a ferry that heads to Haines the following day. The weather can be unpredictable, so if you’re planning to fly from Juneau to Haines and don’t want to get stuck in Juneau until the next ferry or the weather clears (can sometimes be a few days) making sure that you have the option to ferry as a backup is important! The seaplanes check in point is in the same building that you fly into, but outside of security. If you’re planning to ferry to Haines from Juneau, the ferries often leave early in the morning so scheduling a hotel overnight in Juneau would be necessary. The link provided is for flights directly from Juneau into Haines.
Travel Note
If you’d like to ferry from Juneau to Haines rather than fly, the link will take you to the ADOT website. It’s important to check this schedule regardless of whether you fly or ferry to Haines, make sure your flight is the day before the ferry or arrives several hours prior to the ferry departure time so that you don’t get stuck in Juneau! The port you’re sailing from is JNU and the port of arrival is HNS. You’ll need to either taxi or Uber to the ferry, Uber and Lyft are very unreliable so calling ahead and scheduling a taxi is the most reliable route.
Travel Note
Unfortunately Haines is only really walkable within the town (the wedding venue is 3.5 miles out of town), if you’re wanting to hike etc. you’ll want to rent a car, bike or scooter! For cars we recommend renting them in groups because there’s a limited number available in town. Alaska Seaplanes has a shuttle from the airport into town but we may be able to pick you up ourselves. The airport is ~1.5 miles from town. If you’re ferrying, you’ll either need a rental car waiting for you at the terminal or depending on your arrival date and time and we may be able to pick you up ourselves. The ferry terminal is ~4 miles from town.
Travel Note
There are many options for places to stay, we’ve listed the most popular below but if you’d like to be connected with others in your general age group to rent with we would be happy to do that! There are also plenty of campsites in town, as well as the state parks if you’d like to camp either as an option to cut costs or just because it’s fun!
