When the Lord carves a path for you, no speed bump, detour, or breakdown will stop you from reaching your destination. The love between James and Kiara had been quietly unfolding since 1st grade, when they both attended Berne Academy. We can't say for sure if sparks or glances were exchanged back then, but it was the beginning of their story. Fast forward to 2013 at Kennedy Curry Middle School—THE year, give or take seven months—that James and Kiara’s relationship became official. Whether they were friends first is a bit hazy, but when they made it official, there was no doubt. On that day, James made a classic middle school blunder that would set the stage for the drama to come: he revealed that he didn’t like Kiara "more than a friend" until after he found out how she felt about him. Understandable, though—A King never reveals his hand too soon. Despite the awkward moment, they managed to move past it and became the modern-day Romeo and Juliet of Kennedy Curry Middle School—minus the tragic ending... or so they hoped. They rode the high of their new relationship for a solid three months, until Kiara’s entourage (cue the speed bump) ended things with a round of he said, she said. James lost his Queen and gained the title of public enemy number one in the eyes of the entire school. While the romance ended, their friendship couldn’t be so easily broken. That bond stood the test of time. Life’s detour took them to different high schools. Despite the distance, James’s lingering feelings for Kiara kept him trying to stay connected. Kiara, on the other hand, had her blinders on and couldn’t see that the guy she had already met and dated in middle school was, in fact, her future husband. But, as the Lord often does, He knew the timing. As high school went on, their bond began to fade, and after graduation, their contact completely disappeared (cue the breakdown). But we all know—God works in mysterious ways. Five years later, James and Kiara found their way back to each other. And the rest, as they say, is history. Who would’ve guessed that the guy Kiara shared a hallway with in 1st grade would be the one she’d spend her forever with? So, the moral of the story is: keep your eyes open, because you might just be walking past a blessing. And hey, sometimes the 5th time is the charm. Oh, and you can’t keep a King down.
