Things To Do

There is a lot to see and do, but here are a few of our favorites, along with some out of town hiking/outdoors should you want to enjoy some time outside of the city.

Sites - National Mall

Washington, DC

The classic DC experience. We recommend walking the monuments at night for shorter lines and beautiful lighting.

Sites - United States National Arboretum

3501 New York Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC 20002

Home to the original Capitol Columns and miles of beautiful trails. It’s one of our favorite "hidden" escapes within the city.

Sites - Smithsonian National Zoological Park

3001 Connecticut Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20008

A great way to spend an afternoon. (Note for our Nebraska friends: This will be less impressive than what Omaha has to offer)

Outdoors - Rock Creek Park

Washington, DC

Hike - Billy Goat Trail

11710 Macarthur Boulevard, Potomac, MD 20854

A fun, rocky trail along the Potomac River. Perfect for those looking for a bit of a scramble and great views of Great Falls.

Hike - Old Rag Mountain (Tickets Required)

VA 22743

This is a DC-area bucket list hike. It’s challenging but offers the most rewarding 360-degree views in the region. Note: Check if a day-use reservation is required before you head out!

Wine - Muse Vineyards

16 Serendipity Lane, Woodstock, VA 22664

Muse Vineyards (Woodstock, VA) This is one of our favorite stops for a glass of wine with a view. Located right along the Shenandoah River, Muse Vineyards offers award-winning wines and a stunning terrace. The Vibe: Elegant, scenic, and peaceful. A Personal Note: If you see the owners, former U.S. Ambassador Sally Cowal and her husband Robert, please be sure to say hello for us! They are wonderful hosts who have poured their hearts into this country and the stunning estate. Don't Miss: Their "Thalia" blend and the self-guided vineyard trail if you’re feeling active.

Dining - Swover Creek Farms & Brewery (Pizza and beer)

4176 Swover Creek Road, Edinburg, VA 22824

If beer and a more laid-back farm atmosphere are more your speed, Swover Creek is a must. It’s a family-owned farm, brewery, and kitchen all in one - give Lynn an "aw hell" from us. The Vibe: Rustic, cozy, and incredibly welcoming. A Personal Note: This spot is truly a labor of love. Keep an eye out for Dave and Lynn while you're there—give them a big "hello" or an "aw hell" from us! Don't Miss: Their farm-to-table wood-fired pizzas are legendary, and their berry-infused beers (brewed right on-site) are unique and refreshing.

Shopping and Dining - Union Market

1309 5th Street Northeast, Washington, DC 20002

A massive gourmet food hall. Great for groups because everyone can grab something different—from oysters to tacos—and meet in the middle.

Dining - The Salt Line

79 Potomac Avenue Southeast, Washington, DC 20003

Dining - The Little Grand (Pizza)

808 7th Street Northeast, Washington, DC 20002

Don’t let the alleyway entrance fool you! This is our favorite pizza in town—cozy, tucked away, and delicious.

Dining - Daru

1451 Maryland Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC 20002

Incredible Indian fusion cuisine with creative cocktails and a vibrant atmosphere.

Dining - Little Pearl (Tasting menu)

921 Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast, Washington, DC 20003

An absolutely amazing restaurant and a true favorite of ours. This is where we celebrated our engagement, so it holds a very special place in our hearts.

Shopping - Georgetown

Washington, DC 20007

Perfect for a day of shopping and waterfront dining along the historic cobblestone streets.

A stunning blend of art, architecture, and nature. It is one of our favorite outdoor spaces.
