Terra Linda Open Space Hike
This trail is right at the end of our street (the loads of cars parked on Freitas Parkway will prove it) and extends for miles. Uphill to start, but then it’s smooth sailing and great views.
Mount Tamalpais
We might be biased (this is where we got engaged), but this is one of our favorite spots in Marin. Epic views of the coastline and SF. Windy road to get up there, but worth it. Take a picnic and find the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the water.
Marin Headlands
If you want a different view of the Golden Gate Bridge, head up to Marin Headlands for some beautiful scenery, hikes and more. About 35 minutes from San Rafael.
Wine Tasting
If you want to begin your training as an amateur sommelier, Napa and Sonoma are only 40 minutes north of San Rafael, with more wineries than you can even imagine. Some fun ones we’ve been to: Gundlach Bundschu, Gloria Ferrer
Johnny Doughnuts
Did you have any doubts this would make the list? JD now has 4 locations - San Rafael, Larkspur, Santa Rosa and SF. If you’re looking for a quick pickup, the Larkspur Location is the way to go, with other cute shops nearby to check out. If you want to see the Original Johnny Doughnuts in all it’s glory - 1617 4th St is where Katy was slinging doughnuts from 2013-2016.
Sunday Marin Farmers' Market
Best Farmers Market ever? Probably. Go over to Marin Civic Center on Sunday from 9a-1p for delicious fruits, veggies, smoothies, and more. This is about 3 miles from our place.
McInnis Park Golf Center
If you want to go hit up the driving range or mini golf with the kiddos, there is a little Muni course about ten minutes from our house: McInnis Park. They have a nine hole course too if you want to go try to make par. Another fun nine hole course is Mill Valley Golf Course (25 mins from San Rafael). If you’re looking for a nicer 18-hole course, Peacock Gap is tucked away on the eastern edge of San Rafael.
Lo Coco's Authentic Italian Pizzeria
Our favorite Pizza place in Marin. We get the Combination pizza with 3-4 sides of ranch dressing. (But seriously, how is pizza place ranch so good?!) They get pretty busy so we recommend calling your order ahead.
