Becoming Barrios July 9th, 2022

We actually met on Catholic Match! It was the first time either of us have given online dating a real shot. My mom had been pushing for me to get on Catholic Match for years, but I always declined, wanting to meet someone face to face. 2020 was a crazy year for everyone but it was the year that I felt God telling me that I was finally going to meet my long-awaited future husband. So I texted my mom and told her I was ready. I was on the site for a few months but Edgar had only been on Catholic Match during a one month free trial when we crossed paths. He viewed and "hearted" my profile first. It took me 2 weeks to "heart" him back! Some would say I was hesitant because I dated someone in the past with the same first name haha. But as soon as I hearted him back the rest was history. He messaged me later that evening and we instantly found out that we shared an interest in cars among many other things. Messaging Edgar came naturally, even through a screen, and that is hard to come by. We talked, texted, and video called for hours every day for about a month until he came to town on August 1st. He picked me up from my house for our first date and we hung out for about 13 hours however to us, it only felt like 3. It was clear to us after that one in-person date that we had fallen in love.

¡De hecho nos conocimos en Catholic Match! Era la primera vez que alguno de nosotros le había dado una oportunidad real a las citas en línea. Mi madre me había estado presionando para que participara en Catholic Match durante años, pero siempre me negué a querer conocer a alguien cara a cara. El 2020 fue un año loco para todos pero fue el año en el que sentí que Dios me decía que por fin iba a conocer a mi tan esperado futuro esposo. Así que le envié un mensaje de texto a mi mamá y le dije que estaba lista. Estuve en el sitio durante unos meses, pero Edgar solo había estado en Catholic Match durante una prueba gratuita de un mes cuando nos cruzamos. Primero vio y le dio "corazón" a mi perfil. ¡Me tomó 2 semanas recuperarlo! Algunos dirían que dudaba porque salí con alguien en el pasado con el mismo nombre jaja. Pero tan pronto como le devolví el corazón, el resto era historia. Me envió un mensaje más tarde esa noche e instantáneamente descubrimos que compartíamos un interés en los automóviles, entre muchas otras cosas. Enviar mensajes a Edgar fue algo natural, incluso a través de una pantalla, y eso es difícil de conseguir. Hablamos, enviamos mensajes de texto y realizamos videollamadas durante horas todos los días durante aproximadamente un mes hasta que llegó a la ciudad el 1 de agosto. Me recogió en mi casa para nuestra primera cita y salimos durante aproximadamente 13 horas, sin embargo, para nosotros, solo se sintieron como 3. Después de esa cita en persona, estaba claro para nosotros que nos habíamos enamorado.

Edgar and Katy dated for 11 months. He proposed to her in front of the church they would be getting married at on her birthday in 2021! A couple months after the proposal, Edgar decided to make the big move to Austin, TX to be closer to Katy and to make wedding planning and marriage prep easier. He found an apartment in Austin while Katy stays with her friends in Georgetown. The couple really enjoys eating the best foods together or cooking and relaxing. Some of their favorite foods are sushi, thai food, tacos, pasta, salmon and steak. Their first date was at their now favorite sushi restaurant, Sushi Koen. Thank Goodness Edgar loves sushi because it was one of Katy's deal breakers. ;) The couple share a very devout Catholic faith. They love attending weekly mass together, praying rosaries, and hanging out with their young adult church friends once a month for adoration and praise and worship nights. They listen to Catholic podcasts such as Patrick Madrid and Matt Fradd. They enjoy random adventures together, experiencing new places or spending time with each others families. They often take road trips to Edgar's home town 2.5 hours away to visit. One of their favorite pass times is riding bikes together.
