I met Katya while walking my dog Lola from my apartment along the riverwalk. I happened to see some friends at an outdoor bar (Elsewhere) and decided to stay for a drink. I remember noticing her as soon as she walked in and made my move the best way I knew how... I used Lola to start up a conversation. Turns out she loves dogs and I think she liked Lola more than me at first. We had a great time talking that night and exchanged numbers and set up a date for the next day. I don’t remember exactly when I fell in love but from the start I could feel it was right.
It was a Friday and some if my girlfriends convinced me to meet them for a drink at Elsewhere Garden Bar. I decided to go in leggings with greasy hair (put a hat on) . I was sitting at the table closest to where you put in an order when I saw the sweetest dog. Her owner (Travis) let the leash go and she came right up to me. I definitely fell in love with Lola at first sight. Luckily, her owner was just as cute and held even better conversation. We ended up having great conversation multiple times throughout the night. Travis actually didnt have his phone with him since he was just walking Lola and ended up running into friends, so he put his number into my phone. I was definitely smitten and actually told my friend Nicole that I think I met my future husband. Turns out I was right! With help of my friend Lily, I mustered up the courage to ask him if he wanted to meet up the next morning to walk our dogs. It ended up being a great 2 hour walk around the Pearl with Lola and Cheetoh. The next week, we ended up going on our first date and it was the best date I had ever gone on. Travis gave me butterflies from the beginning and we had the best conversations (still do). I am so thankful that I ended up going to Elsewhere that day, I can’t imagine my life without Travis and Lola.
I had never been more sure of something in my life. I had the ring picked out and wanted to somehow surprise her and have friends around to celebrate with us. We were having a New Year’s Eve party at our house so it was the perfect way to be able to surprise her with fiends. I went and picked up the ring the day before but I was so worried that she would catch on so besides family, I only told one person (Taylor) what was going to happen. He got a great video of the proposal so thanks Taylor for capturing that moment! So as we are counting down to midnight 3,2,1… happy new year! I drop to a knee, pull out the ring and Kat drops her champagne and starts to cry. She said yes and it was the happiest night of my life.
New Years Eve is one of my favorite holidays, so I was so excited to host a small party with some of our closest friends. Our friends Taylor and his girlfriend, Kim, were coming all the way from Dallas, so I was excited. I am not a morning person at all, so when Trav woke up super early to tell me he had to go run errands , I did not think anything of it and definitely did not want to go. The day was a pretty normal one, I cleaned the house and cooked some food and then had the great idea of getting some balloons for decor. Travis was also very for the idea and he went right away to go pick them up. Kim and Taylor arrived and we started getting ready. After cleaning and cooking, I really didn't feel like getting dressed up too much but Trav encouraged me to dress up a little bit , which thinking back on it was a little out of the ordinary but I didn't think much of it. Friends started arriving and we started playing games and having a few drinks. I had the timer set for a few minutes before midnight so we could pour the champagne and get ready. About 2 minutes before I remembered I had a ring light and decided to record the countdown of all of us. Little did I know, it was soon to be the best night of my life. After the countdown and kiss, I turned around to give my friend a hug and Trav called my name. I turned around and if it weren't for the recording and for other people recording, it would've just been a blur of tears. I dropped my champagne in actual shock and just started crying. It was the best surprise and it was the EASIEST YES of my life. I still cry every time I watch the proposal video and I grow more in love with Travis every day. I can't wait to marry you, Travis Lee Watson!
