We met in September 2012 at Becky Sanft's 25th birthday party. Becky and Rachel were playing on a summer softball league with Trent and they thought we would make a cute couple. They set us up by inviting him to the birthday party. Trent showed up early to Becky's party carrying a box of pink wine. The rest of the night, he did his best to throw out all the stops and put on the charm as we went bar hopping in uptown Minneapolis.
Trent proposed on July 19th, 2019. With a little help from our wedding venue owner, Trent made a plan to pretend that we were going to the venue for a secondary tour, but actually it would be a staged engagement. He wanted to pick a place that he knew that I loved and that would be special for us. When we arrived at the venue, the owner started off giving us a tour. Then, when we were walking towards the gazebo in the main garden, she told us to walk ahead. I hadn't noticed when she disappeared and I was telling Trent what a wonderful place this would be to get married, and he said "Oh yeah, do you think it would be a good place to get engaged?" And when I turned around he was on one knee with the ring. There was champagne and flowers waiting for us in the gazebo. That night we had dinner and stayed at a beautiful bed and breakfast suite in Stillwater, MN.
When it became apparent that the pandemic was not going away any time soon, Trent and I put our big wedding plans on hold and instead got married in a very small ceremony in his Grandpa's backyard. We spent a week having the best time working with Grandpa to get his yard in shape-- weeding, clearing out brush, hanging flowers, and stringing lights. Although it wasn't the big event we had imagined, our little wedding was so lovely and intimate we were so grateful for the experience. Trent and exchanged our own vows in a short ceremony officiated by his friend and mentor, Matt Friedl, and afterwards we celebrated with dinner and toasts.
