How We Met

August 2014

Cody & I first met as lifeguards at the Kettle Moraine YMCA. Cody was my supervisor & I shadowed him for my first few days of training. We got along right away but there was some unfortunate miscommunication & Cody thought I wasn't available. A couple months later a coworker told him I was free & after one of our shifts he asked me out to dinner. Our first date was at West Bend Tap + Tavern. We ended up talking for over 4 hours & the restaurant staff had to ask us to leave so they could close (lol). Cody later told me that he wasn't looking for a serious relationship as he was about to leave for college in Whitewater; boy was he wrong :)

The Proposal

August 11, 2018

Cody & I were days away from going on vacation to visit my parents in Texas. He was about to leave the house to go hang out with a friend when he decided we should go get ice cream from our favorite place at 10 o'clock in the morning. I was confused because it was so early in the day & we had just ate breakfast but I went along with it because he was very insistent. I already knew Cody had bought my ring & I had been nagging him for weeks about when he was gonna do it but I had no idea it was coming. We drove separate & got our ice cream from Candyman on Main Street in downtown West Bend. We started walking & I heard an orchestra playing nearby in the pavilion & wanted to go listen. Coincidentally, there was a farmers market that day that the orchestra had been playing at. Cody pulled me away from the pavilion & down a path by some park benches. He was acting very strange & nervous but I still had no idea what was happening. We sat there eating our ice cream & Cody started to talk about how sentimental this location was to us & our relationship but I just kept interrupting him. I finally told him "You're acting so weird." & that's when he pulled out the box, upside down, & told me "I'm gonna be weird forever." I was in so much shock that I just kept asking him "Are you serious?" over & over before I finally took the ring from him & put it on. Fun fact: Cody's cousin Kallie was playing in the orchestra & happened to be the first person we told our good news to!

For all the days along the way
