How We Met

6.14.19

Late at night during Winona Steamboat Days, Katie was sitting on a bench eating a bucket of cheese curds. That's when she saw Tyler run by and give his friend a leaping bear hug. He caught her eye and she asked “Hey do you guys want to help me finish my cheese curds?" Tyler sat down and they stayed there chatting long after the last carnival ride stopped. She drove him home, he texted himself off of her phone to have her number, and they bet a bottle of rum that he would come visit her at work the next night. Sure enough, while making a burrito at ChaChis, the cute guy from the night before walked in the door. Katie lost the bet, but won herself a man. Within a few weeks, we had bonded over soccer, Tyler helped her Dad bale hay, and Katie did his large mound of dirty laundry. A couple of months later, we moved to Rochester together and thanks to those cheesecurds, the rest is history :)

The Proposal

6.27.20

In the words of Tyler: I convinced Katie to go hiking at 8am on a Saturday, and she was not a happy camper. She told me she would rather stay at home sleeping and that I should go by myself. I eventually convinced her to come with me. We went to Oxbow Park in Byron and met up with my friends who were moving to Colorado. They were my excuse for an early morning hike.... In the words of Katie: Even though Tyler had showered and got ready before we left, I didn't suspect anything. In protest to the early wake up call, I wore one of my favorite colorful narwhal jerseys I got while playing Ultimate Frisbee in Korea. Towards the end of the hike, we were walking down a hill and Tyler ran a little bit ahead of me. He stopped on a bridge and set his water bottle down and his friends had stopped behind me. That's when I knew something was happening. His nerves got the best of him and he said "So you know how I told you I don't ever want another Kubb partner... so will you marry me?" Keeping it classy, before saying "Yes!" my first response was actually "You lied!". That was because I had suspected (correctly) that he had bought a ring, but he convinced me otherwise. Later that night, we competed in his family's kubb tournament, and although we didn't bring home the trophy, we celebrated being kubb partners for life.
