John and Katie met by chance out one night at the local dive bar, Inwood Tavern. John was playing pool with buddies and Katie was there with friends. She saw him shoot and teasingly said, “you don’t know what you’re doing.” His reply was “don’t talk to your future husband that way…”

John proposed at the top of a hiking trail overlooking the Pacific Ocean at sunset in Big Sur, California. She said yes.
