From Katie's perspective: I went to a concert in Deep Ellum with my brother, Bobby. Afterwards, we went next door to The Green Room, a popular Deep Ellum bar. I had a mission to be Bobby's wing-woman. After meeting two girls from Spain and talking to them with Bobby, a handsome guy walked up to our group. Realizing there were 2 girls and 2 guys, I felt like I had done my job and went back to the bar. That handsome guy walked back up to me, introduced himself as Doug, and claimed it was me he was wanting to talk to. Being the hard-headed, non-romantic that I am, I didn't believe him and tried to call his bluff. After lots of conversation at the bar, Doug walked Bobby and I back to Bobby's apartment. After an exchange of numbers, we texted a couple weeks later and went on our first date on October 4th.
From Doug's perspective: Two weeks prior to the big day, I went and did a little recon of the place I planned on popping the question. I got the okay from the manager, so I thought all was well. The day of the proposal I show up to the place with easels and pictures frames in hand to begin setting up. The 2 employees working had no idea I was coming or why I was there...the manager apparently forgot to tell them. Regardless, my brother Stephen and I begin setting everything up. After we did a few practice runs, I left to get Katie. I told her that we were meeting my parents for drinks, but she didn't know where. When I got to her place I was incredibly nervous because I had to find a way to keep the ring in the box, but somehow hide it on me. We hopped in an Uber and headed to the rooftop bar. The plan was for my brother to have everything in position and be hiding in order to get candid shots. I texted him when were 10 minutes out (that he took as a warning) and then again when we were headed up to the rooftop (that is when he decided to set up). We walked out of the elevator to the patio where Stephen was just around the corner still setting up the last photo. We were able to laugh about it and Stephen went and "hid" as Katie worked her way through the photos of each year of our relationship. The final one was a blank canvas to represent the next year, also used to distract her, so when she turned around, I was on one knee. I asked and she said yes!
