Timothy moved to and started teaching high school math at Katie’s hometown while she was in college at NDSU. They first saw each other at Sunday Mass when Katie came home for the weekend. Tim had told his friends back home that he found someone he was interested in, but needed to be patient. They first talked at a small 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Munich when Katie was asked to run the score clock. After failing miserably at her duties, Tim volunteered to run the clock and she could keep book. Fast forward to January 2015 when they started talking via Snapchat. One evening Katie and her parents were at the Munich Bar and her parents said to invite Tim up so Brian could buy him a beer. The four of them ended up road tripping to Calio later on. This is when the love sparked! Katie’s sister, Kari, was a senior in high school and Tim was her math teacher. Needless to say, she was not impressed that her sister was seeing her teacher, as “all the students were talking about it.” Tim and Katie instantly connected over witty jokes, spending endless amounts of time together, and watching Arrested Development episodes (multiple times).
After a few weeks of hanging out and getting to know each other more, Katie asked Tim if this was going to go anywhere. He finally decided to ask her to be his girlfriend on February 23, 2015, which was Katie’s late grandma’s birthday. They went on their first “date” to a girls’ district tournament basketball game in Cando, where a good majority of the Langdon/Munich fans became aware of their relationship. Katie also got her car stuck at the end of Tim’s driveway before going to the game - must be true love if he stuck with her after that!
After coaching the football team to their 2nd consecutive state championship title, Tim had two weeks off before he would begin coaching the boys’ basketball team. On Thursday, November 26, 2019, Katie’s other late grandma’s birthday, Katie came home from work and headed to women’s bowling. Meanwhile, Tim made a trip to the Hoffmann farm to ask Katie’s parents if they would give him permission to marry their daughter. Tim went back to town and stopped over at Katie’s shortly after she got home from bowling. Katie had just finished eating supper and was standing in the kitchen putting her dishes in the dishwasher. Tim got down on one knee in the kitchen to “play with the dogs.” And the rest is history... Katie still isn’t sure how Tim held onto the ring for over 12 months, but she knew she also needed to be patient (but wasn’t very good at it).
