The universe works in mysterious ways. After we both left jobs in Northern Virginia to come to Richmond and work at an environmental firm called RES, we met and couldn't help but notice we felt something different about each other. A few months later (and after many times of Taylor "conveniently" riding his bike by Katie's apartment, making up excuses to ask her questions at work, and even bringing her treats) Katie invited Taylor over for a chicken parmesan dinner, which he tried to be cool about but was secretly very excited about. We grabbed drinks at Saison that week on Friday- Good Friday as it turned out to be - although we both were still uncertain about how the other felt. You never want to assume! Turns out, the feelings were mutual. We started dating and both had a pretty strong sense that this was our person. Turns out we were right.
Anyone who knows us knows Katie's quirky sass and love of plants/the outdoors. After a request of going to see the Christmas lights at the Lewis Ginter botanic gardens in 2018 that Taylor admittedly did not fulfill, he thought it would be sweet to take her in 2019. A curt, "No, because you didn't take me last year," from Katie didn't stop him from planning a dinner at their first date spot, Saison, and a visit to the Christmas lights on opening night. After a nervousness-induced tour of the lights at basically a jogging pace, while repeatedly asking Katie what her favorite spot was, he asked a group of strangers walking by to take a photo of us. After a few normal pictures and an errant child running right in front of us, he got down on one knee and popped the question.
