Our Story

Her side: In August of 2022, I (Katie) rolled into church a few minutes late after camping all weekend with some friends. I noticed this new, very handsome man, sitting on the second row. After service I made my way to the coffee and treat table at the back. Much to my delight, so did this handsome new comer! We talked about cookies (I think?!) and then joined the conversation happening around us. After a moment, I turned and said, “okay I haven’t met you yet. I’m Katie.” Shane introduced himself, we talked for a second longer and then went our separate ways. I left church praying about this “Shane guy” and asked the Lord to take him out of my path if he wasn’t supposed to be in my life. And then I tried not yo think about him any more. I’d planned to meet up with a mutual friend of ours the following Wednesday. We didn’t make official plans until the day of. When I told her I’d just grab a smoothie for dinner before our walk, she insisted I come over and eat with them. As I was pulling into her neighborhood, I received another text. “Our friend Shane and his daughter Laine often meet us for dinner on Wednesdays so they might be here too! It’ll be a party!” With no time to prepare myself, I rolled in and we all had a great time hanging out for a couple hours. We even threw the football a few times, and I made it spiral - making me feel pretty proud of myself, and hoping he was too! :) I left that night intrigued and hopeful, but still trying not to give it too much of my mental attention. The next Sunday we arrived at church about the same time. I introduced him to a sweet lady at our church then went to wrangle the children in the nursery. We managed to talk a little more and he told me about his pressure washing project he’d been working on at the church. I asked if that was his job (I mean I didn’t know!!) He laughed explained he just felt called to do it because he saw a need and could meet it. I have no idea what else he said because the only thing going through my mind was, “who is this man who serves so willingly like this? He is not normal. I want to know more.” The next day at school, I got a text from our mutual friend from Shane asking a question. I spent a good couple hours trying to craft a response back yo our friend that answered, but also cut her completely out of the equation so Shane and I could talk. She sent me his number for “clarification” of the question. I sent him a quick, kinda cute reply … and we’ve talked every day since. That first day, I just kept waiting for him to stop engaging or creating conversation. He didn’t. I fell asleep that night as we were talking about a song he didn’t know. The next morning he picked right back up, and continued the conversation by sending me a verse he thought might encourage me during my day teaching. I walked my class to recess praying under my breath. “Lord .. who is this?! What are you doing here? It just feels different.” Quickly, as we continued talking, I realized there was something very different happening indeed. I was intrigued by this man. He was funny. He was so kind. He was serving others because he could and did it joyfully not wanting the accolades. He was honest and vulnerable, and asked intentional questions of me. He loved the Lord, and showed that in how he would engage me in Biblical conversations. And he was really REALLY cute. Our conversations have never stopped. They’ve gotten deeper as time has gone on, but they’ve also gotten even more fun! Now as we’re entering this next season of life, I cannot wait to see how our relationship continues to change and deepen over the rest of forever! His side: Coming Soon
