Our Story

Start of Something Special

Katie is in Property Management and I work for a Reconstruction company that specializes in all her property needs. Her company was currently using us to trim some trees, but we wanted more!! During a morning meeting the owners of my company suggested that i stop by and see if we can work up anymore business. Little did I know I would be working up more business than expected. I show up to the property to do just that, try to get more business. When I walked in I could hear this voice, this sweet but stern, strong but on the other hand very soft and soothing. I waited around in the lobby until “The Voice” got off the phone. I couldn’t wait to see where this sound was coming from. I step around the corner to see this beauty, glowing blond hair, a smile that could melt any mans heart, and these blue eyes i could get lost in. I gave her my normal spill, as i do all the managers, but this time was different, when i said “it’s very nice to meet you” i meant it, or “look forward to doing buisness with you” or even “can’t wait to hear from you.” Everything i said sounded different and felt meaningfull. We ended the conversation with planning to meet up. After a few long weeks we finially met up at a her place, me with a cooler on wheels full of beer, a bottle of Makers and pickle juice! After a couple of shots of pickle back our conversation began to flow much easier, it was like we’d been friends forever and we’re just catching up. The night was full of laughter, jokes, stories of our past, favorite things, what first dates are supposed to cover. The very next morning I sent her a text, “I really like you Popko.” There wasn’t a day that went by after that I didn’t talk to her. I needed this little country charm in my life and I guess she needed me in her life as well! 3 months after that I called my mom and asked her, “what’s too soon?” She replied with, “when you know, you know.” February 20th, 2020 she became my fiance!!

The Proposal

“When I fall, you’ll know.”

My bestman invited us to Broken Bow for the weekend 2/20/20. That’s the perfect place! I started planning. Called my mother, “How do I get her ring size without her knowing?” That’s when mom called Katie, “I want to buy you this candle that you have to burn all the way to get a ring. What’s your size.” Mind blown! I had the perfect ring, my mother’s grandmother’s ring that had been in the family for 100 years, just needed to get it sized! I went to pick it up a week before our trip. We get to Broken Bow and Matt and I are standing by the fire and the first thing out of his mouth, “You been ring shopping lately?” “Actually I have it in my truck!” He was shocked, his eyes got wide, “when should I be ready to record?” I said “When I fall, you’ll know.” The sun was starting to go down and everyone was around the fire, this is the perfect time! Went to the truck to get the ring. Still wasn’t sure how I was going to pull this off so I stuck the ring in my boot. I’m pacing back and forth in the house. I go out to the back patio, which is half a story off the ground, the only way down is 15 steps onto sharp edgy white rock. That’s perfect, I’ll just throw myself off 15 steps parrell with the ground and act like I twist my ankle! I did just that! Everyone came running, well Katie had to be persuaded by Matt, but she finally did and that’s all that matters. Concerning faces looking down upon me. I pointed to my boot and said, “I hurt my ankle!” They found the box, some thought it was a gift for someone else (why else would I have a ring in my boot) and one thought it was an ankle moniter, Katie. They put it back into my boot like they were hiding it from everyone! I motioned to give it to Katie, when they did i popped up and got on one knee. I had rehersed those words a thousand times over and over, but it was different saying it out loud. The bottom line is that she said yes, actually “ABSOFUCKINLUTELY!” and we enjoyed the best weekend of our lives!
