The Eastside Love Story

A long time ago, back before the first shovel of dirt was turned for the Beltline, young love found its way into the hearts of two unexpecting Eastside kids, Katie and Rodney. She was the baddest and he was the realest. It was the year 2008 at Chapel Hill Middle School (Decatur, GA) and the two hit it off, but only for a short while. Like a bright burn of a dying star, the sparks that flew between them came and went as quickly as the butterflies vacated their stomachs. Little did they know, this would not be the end of their story together. In fact, one might think this quick, warm embrace decided the fate of their hearts just before they took the next stage of their journeys apart. For the next decade and change, Katie and Rodney embarked on paths of growth, education, love, and laughter that would take them to new heights through Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, and Howard University in Washington D.C. After both graduated, Rodney started a career in real estate, and Katie continued the meticulous task of becoming a doctor. Then, it happened. Our two Eastside success stories found each other all over again. It started as friendly conversation and encouragement in their new, mature stages of life, but quickly grew into much more. As the two of them avoided their resurfacing warm feelings for each other, those dormant young love sparks and butterflies quickly grew impatient. Soon enough, they hit it off again, but this time that love was here to stay. Now, you can find our happy couple traveling the world together, experiencing new life, eating great food, and enjoying the community that has been built around them. Katie is now a Medical Doctor, where she intentionally serves the most vulnerable populations of Atlanta. Rodney is a Real Estate Developer and Affordable Housing Advocate, working to provide housing to the most vulnerable and drive investment in our Black neighborhoods.
