How we MetHow we Met

Jesus brought me a TACO!

I went to a Halloween party at our friends Dina and Lorraine’s, when in walked a TACO! Anyone who knows me knows my obsession with tacos, so of course I had to compliment him on having the BEST costume there. I went as Día de los Muertos with full face makeup, so the first thing he said to me was a compliment on my makeup—and I thought, "Wow, he’s cute AND nice." He was there with his son Henry, who was 13 at the time and dressed as Jesus. I tried to chat up Henry, but he was pretty shy (not so much anymore). I made it pretty obvious I was interested in Rick that night—LOL—but our conversation just flowed so easily, and I had this feeling like I had known him my whole life. I knew this felt different. I asked our mutual friends about him, and all I heard all night was how sweet he was and, “He’s such a good guy.” So I knew I had a good one, and I wasn’t about to let him get away. I added him on Facebook and left it at that. About a week later, he reached out after I—as he puts it—“stood him up.” I was supposed to go to another Halloween gathering with the same friends but wasn’t feeling great, so I stayed home. The next morning, I had messages from both Dina and Rick. “Ricky was asking about you last night.” —Dina Rick and I started chatting, and the rest is history. It didn’t take long to start saying “I love you”s—by a dumpster (but that’s another story). Four years of love and laughter later, I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. —Katie
