Katie and Michael met in college at UC Berkeley. It was love at first sight for Michael. And for Katie, well, she had seen him around her friend's boyfriend's fraternity, and mostly knew him as the kid who never came to their shared accounting class. Over a year later, and with some encouragement from Katie's friends, Michael finally worked up the nerve to talk to her. A first date quickly followed. Michael pulled out all of the stops (by college dating standards) and took Katie to lunch at Fillipo's Italian Restaurant and Ici's Ice Cream for dessert (two of Katie's favorites!). Two weeks later, Michael knew he needed to 'lock it down' so he asked Katie to be his girlfriend. Katie said no! She was in no rush. But she didn't make him wait too much longer. After a few more dates, the two were 'official' and enjoying their senior years together! Fast forward, and almost 9 years later, Katie and Michael went on a California road trip to visit some National Parks. Katie was positive that Michael would propose on a day hike in Yosemite. I mean, it has been 9 years. But…nothing. Payback! Katie made Michael sweat it out all those years ago when she said ‘no’ to being his girlfriend, so it was only fair that Katie sweat it out waiting for a proposal. After returning from their road trip, slightly bummed, but determined, Katie began planning hikes every chance she got. Knowing someone as well as you do after 9 years, Katie knew Michael would propose on a hike. And sure enough, on a foggy Saturday in July, Michael proposed while they were hiking in the Berkeley hills. Katie said yes! And from here on, the two intend to be more aligned on the timing of future life milestones (but if not, well they have some experience figuring it out together!)
