Start at the Rivertown Lodge Hotel: Food writer Sarah Copeland, kicks things off outside the Rivertown Lodge, a former theater that’s been converted into slick, Scandi-style sleeping quarters and offers entertainment as well as great food!
This bakery is just across the street ( half a block up) from the Rivertown Lodge. This is your first stop for coffee and pastries, or something to nibble on.
When you’re well-caffeinated step next door to Flowerkraut. The proprietors of Flowerkraut are Mairead Travins (shown), a Scottish born floral designer and her husband Seth, who makes lacto-fermented kraut with veggies sourced from organic farms nearby.
Turn right and walk half a block to Red Chair, a favorite antique shop. Hudson has no shortage of antique shops, but Red Chair on Warren is her best pick.
Turn right and continue down Warren to John Doe Records and Books: Walk just over a block to this funky record and book shop. If you’re on the lookout for an obscure record, cassette, or book, John Doe Records and Books has something for you.
Cross the street to have coffee at Moto: Cross back over Warren at the end of the block to warm up and have a snack. Anthony Katz and chef Katherine Darling outside Moto Coffee/Machine, your destination for caffeine, waffles, and motorcycles.
Turn left and go to Hudson Wine Merchants: Turn left out of Moto and head up the block for some wine. Meet the owners of Hudson Wine Merchants, known for its old and new world selection and excellent cider stash.
Turn left to find Talbott & Arding: After you’ve picked up a bottle of wine, turn left and head to the end of the block, where the entire gang gathers outside Talbott & Arding, which has all your provisions, made in house or gathered from New York’s finest dairies and farms.
Walk down Union Street and turn left on South Front to explore the waterfront: After you’ve picked up a few provisions (is your bag getting heavy?) now it’s time to really stretch your legs. Turn left out of Talbott & Arding and stroll down to the waterfront, where you can catch breeze along the Hudson as you take in the view en route to Basilica Hudson.
Walk through the historic Union Street district: Turn back and walk up South Front Street to Union Street, and soak up the small-town charm of row house after row house. You’ll spot painted bricks, creeping vines, iron windows, and flower boxes galore on this historic street
Walk to the Backbar for lunch (and note a great date spot for dinner at Fish & Game) Turn right on Union Street and head up the block to Union and South 3rd, where you’ll find Bakar at Backbar. The look at Bakar, Zak Pellacio and Jori Jayne Emde’s second Hudson eatery, is Bangkok kitsch meets upstate hunting lodge.
