Matt and Katie met in December 2014, after being set up on a blind date by their mutual friends, Lauren and Brian. Their first date was at Lauren and Brian’s house, with Matt’s sister Jess and brother in law Kris there also - no pressure! That first date was spent having some drinks, listening to music, and awkwardly not talking until having a bunch more drinks. They kept in touch after that, and started a long distance relationship. For the next couple months, Katie and Matt visited each other on weekends, both taking turns traveling between Hoboken, NJ and North Wales, PA. 2 months later in February 2015 Katie took her first trip to Sea Isle and met the rest of Matt’s family and a bunch of friends and the next month Matt met Katie’s family... and the rest is history! 2 years later, they decided to take the next step and move in together... in Seattle, WA. Katie and Matt’s relationship has gone through a cross country move, grad school, new jobs, and a pandemic. After 6 years together and 4 years in Seattle, it’s only the beginning of a fun and exciting forever.
Matt and Katie were getting ready for their annual trip back east for Christmas. Matt was leaving a week earlier than Katie, so the morning started like most usual Saturdays with MSNBC and coffee, until it was time for Katie to bring Matt to the airport. His plans hit a snag when Katie checked his flight number (so she knew when he landed safely) and couldn’t find the information for his pretend flight home. Matt had to avoid Katie at all costs for the next hour since he had no answers to her questions about when his flight was landing back in PA. After some time, Matt told Katie his flight number was 0 and he planned for them to have a weekend together before traveling and seeing family for a couple of weeks. Then, he pulled out a ring, got on one knee, and popped the question. Katie said yes through happy tears immediately, and then said sorry for being (a little) rude about the pretend flight earlier. In true pandemic fashion, Matt and Katie zoomed with their family and friends to celebrate for the rest of the day from their apartment, before having a fancy dinner, delivered to them exclusively by GrubHub.
