Matthew first laid eyes on his beloved Katie Cobb while substituting at Georgetown East. She was vibrantly singing off key and dancing with her littles to "Pop See Ko" in the library. Struck by the power of love from Norse goddess Freyja, Matthew knew he needed another chance to talk to her. With a hopeful heart, Matthew kept a lookout for other subbing opportunities. As fate would have it, a long term subbing position for an art teacher appeared. Being a sub at Georgetown East is no easy feat. Many had taken the position before him and left, failing to meet the challenge of educating tiny humans. But Matthew Green was no ordinary man, and he does not suffer fools. Armed with the powers of love and art, Matthew faithfully showed up to work each day aspiring to be noticed by the divinely whimsical librarian. Oblivious to Matthew's romantic intentions, the librarian did in fact notice him. "Golly," thought Katie Cobb. "This one hasn't quit yet. Perhaps, I should go check on him to see if he needs help." Skipping down the hallway to the tune in her head, Katie left the library in pursuit of the art room. Surprised at her sudden appearance before him, Matthew thought of the one thing he could say to inspire absolute confidence, "Hi!" His poetic introduction worked. The two chatted for the rest of their planning period about books, movies, and pets. Enthralled with their conversation, Matthew realized he needed a way to continue talking with Katie. Though introversion tugged at his mind like a flock of crows, Matthew resigned himself to persist the art of wooing. Enter a carefully selected list of comics and novels curated between naps. Matthew presented his list of recommendations to Katie Cobb knowing that should she ever ask to read one, he in fact had all of the titles and would happily lend them to her. In that moment, Katie had never realized how astonishingly handsome he was. Soon after, he would ask for her number which she gave to him on a Post It.

It was June, Summer of 2017 when Matthew and Katie had their first date. At Barnes & Noble, the two had tea and cookies while perusing the many aisles of stories, recipes, and facts. They talked at length of their dreams, and favorite things to do while watching turtles swim in a pond outside of the store. Both Katie and Matthew felt the power of imagination and creativity when they were together. Despite the magical date, however, Katie decided they should just be friends. Matthew understood Katie's need to take things slow, and so he resolved that he would be the bestest friend a girl could ask for. The two continued to enjoy their favorite things together by going to movies like Thor: Ragnarok and imagining all of the worlds they would create themselves one day. The day before Thanksgiving, Matthew greeted Katie with a Key Lime pie which she shared with her family. The pie was delicious. "We're just friends," Katie replied to pairs of raised eyebrows inquiring about the origins of the pie. "Right. Because a nice man just happens to make a pie for a girl he's friends with," they all said. Did she know he was in love with her? They all wondered. Did she know she was in love with him? The wonderment of it all indeed. On December 30th, 2017 Matthew and Katie exchanged Christmas gifts and finally expressed their feelings of mutual affection. That evening they shared their first kiss together, and made plans to enjoy a second date. The second date (full of Greek food and arcade games) led to 300 more, and now the rest is history!
