Our Story - Katie

May 11th, 2018

Our story starts out with the classic "I never would've guessed I would meet my future husband..." walking into a lifeguard training class at age 15. Jumping forward to May 2018, Luke asked me to go hiking a week or two before the hike, which was unusual that far in advance. However, I did not think this would be the weekend he would propose. My detective self had decided this was a preplanned trip so that any preplanned future trips (that he might propose on) would not seem suspicious. After the Thursday hike, and many countless accidental clues and hints (ex: "make sure you bring and wear a cute dress for tomorrow"), I knew that he was potentially proposing the next day. Thursday night I did not sleep. I tried not to think about the next day and wished I hadn't so naturally looked into every little detail. I wasn't going to tell Luke that I had suspicions though. The next day on our way to Rockbridge, where I thought he was giving his testimony to JMU students, we ended up arriving "early" so he asked to go on a walk... Luke had told me years ago that he knew how and where he was going to propose and not once did I guess it could have been Rockbridge. We began to approach the arches along the path in the woods where we used to leave letters for each other when we were long-distance. As we got closer, he pointed out a small wooden box placed in the bricks by the arches and he began to ask if I wanted to open it. I responded "no" and he said "are you sure babe," I responded "yes I was sure," over and over... BUT eventually I opened it and in messy handwriting (written by Ben Ertel) it said "Katie, Will you marry me?"... and the rest is history. Jesus has taught me a lot about patience through this period of waiting and he still isn't done! I'm so thankful for the Lord's intervention May 18, 2012 at that lifeguarding class at Midlothian Athletic Club. I love you Luke Harrison Boswell.

Our Story - Luke

The day I proposed to Katie DiVittorio started with an entire bottle of Champagne being sprayed on me as I slept. I like to consider this a metaphor for God's grace and blessing being showered upon us, and I have seen that many times throughout my relationship with Katie. Flashback 6 years and some months from that moment, and you'll see the first time I really experienced God's blessing (even though I was unaware at the time), when I first met Katie. Katie and I met on May 18th 2012, and we knew it was love at first sight. Well, not quite - it happened a little differently. I walked into a lifeguard certification class with my best friend Anthony Balsamo and actually just thought she was cute, while she thought I was "immature". I guess I was more charming than immature though, because I was able to convince her to hang out with me a few times, and even got her to come to a family dinner. However, we were in different grades, and it was hard to make it work out. Eventually, my good friend and groomsmen Ben Ertel, and Katie's Maid of Honor Nikki Glowatsky started dating in my junior year of high school, and double dates with us four started to happen. I realized I liked her immediately and after a few double dates, I decided to pursue her. I was able to convince her to continue dating me through two years of us being at separate schools, and haven't stopped pursuing her for a second. After 4 years of dating, I finally decided to ask her to be my wife, and she said 'yes'! Katie has been there for me through it all, close to 5 years now, and I couldn't value my relationship with her more highly than I do now. I only hope that continues to grow as I learn to love her in more ways, and serve her as a husband, but I'll save the gooey-type stuff for the wedding event. Katie, I love you.
