Joe proposed at the House of Cards (a jazzy, black tie restaurant and bar/magic venue - you HAVE to check it out sometime) in Nashville, TN. Unbeknownst to Katie, he'd been conspiring with the management for weeks. After flying into Nashville, they headed to House of Cards with Wess and Melissa Inscoe (see Wedding Party tab). When they arrived, a professional photographer took their "courtesy picture", and Joe spent a curious amount of time texting "work" (aka: texting the photographer and manager). Then, Joe went to the bathroom, took an abnormally long time, and reported he got lost on the way (aka: handing over the ring). A few minutes after Joe returned to the table, the House of Cards manager, photographer, and a magician arrived. The manager stated the magician would be featured in national magic magazine spread, and asked if our table would like to participate in tricks and pictures. Joe, who would usually chime in with an immediate answer during such an opportunity, was curiously quiet. Katie quirked an eyebrow at him. "Sure!" she said. First, $1 bills turned into $100 bills. Cards disappeared and reappeared in a round of captivatingly clever tricks. Then, the magician noticed an old family ring on Katie's finger. "Hey, I see you have a ring there; mind if I borrow it?" After a moment's hesistation, Katie wiggled it off. The old ring appeared and disappeared in some ingenious and truly skilled slight-of-hand. Then, out of nowehere, he produced a new ring on his keychain. "Oh wait, that's not yours...is it?" Katie's jaw dropped. She whipped around to stare at Joe, who oddly looked just as surprised. Confused, Katie looked back to the magician. He smiled and handed Joe the ring. Joe straightened. "Well Katie," he said dropping to one knee, "you're the best thing that has ever happened to me. You've made my life better in every way. I could never imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone else. Will you marry me?" Obviously, we all know the answer.
