Flight
The airport in Marquette is called Sawyer International Airport. There aren't many flights in per day, so we advise booking as soon as possible for best price and most comfortable travel day. Note: Often on travel search engines it will auto-fill in Chicago's airport when you type in "Marquette MI". Make sure you are flying to Sawyer Int. Airport (Code MQT).
Travel Note
Although small, Marquette is a tourist destination in the summer. Make your arrangements as soon as you can to get best rates and more comfortable travel experiences.
Rental Car
Transportation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a bit tricky. Although I've seen ride share services occasionally available, I wouldn't depend on being able to get an Uber or Lyft from the airport. There are three main ways we recommend to get from the airport to Marquette: 1. Renting a Car: sawyerairport.com/parking-transportation/car-rentals/ 2. Booking private transportation: checkertransport.com 3. City Bus arrives at the airport 5x per day. See website for details: marq-tran.com/marquette-sawyer-gwinn-route-schedule/
Travel Note
If you are planning on staying for more than a few days, are booking a vacation rental, or are wanting to do a lot of outdoor activities, we highly recommend renting a car for your stay.
Travel Note
In late June, weather in Marquette is typically in the 70s during the day and the 50s at night. However, the Upper Peninsula has pretty unpredictable weather, so pack layers.
House Or Rental
If you're looking for an alternative to a hotel, Marquette is home to Airbnbs and Vrbos, many of which have private beachfronts. This would be a great option for a those wishing to experience Lake Superior, or for large groups wishing to stay together. It would be best to stay within a 20 minute drive from downtown Marquette.
