Located in the heart of Atlanta, the High features a collection of more than 20,000 works of art, special exhibitions, and engaging community programming. It also was the starting place of Jay & Katie’s first date! To recreate that special night, be sure to walk over to the Four Season’s Bar Margot after! Katie was delighted to find it shared the name of her beloved grandmother and Jay was delighted to find it playing his favorite movie, Casablanca, on that special night!
We highly recommend spending an afternoon walking or biking the Beltline, a vibrant loop of trails and green spaces (built on former abandoned rail lines!) that connects Atlanta’s most popular neighborhoods. Strolling along the Beltline, you’ll find restaurants, parks, street art, shops, and breweries - perfect for exploring, eating, and soaking up the city’s energy! We recommend starting at Ponce City Market and walking down to Krog Street Market. On the way, you’ll pass Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall, which has a dog and kid-friendly outdoor space perfect for enjoying a bite and drink
The Atlanta Botanical Garden is a family-friendly destination located a short distance by car from the FORTH and Clermont hotels. It’s a perfect place to spend an afternoon and, during the wedding weekend, you can enjoy the annual flowering bulb festival, Atlanta Blooms, when thousands of brightly colored tulips and daffodils will be on display!
Our neighborhood Thai restaurant with an ever-changing menu full of creative, flavorful dishes — Talat Market is a favorite for a delicious Friday night out. Jay’s favorite is their famous mini-tini (a tiny but noteworthy martini), while Katie can’t get enough of their Laap spiced cashews. Definitely worth a visit while you’re in town!
If you’re staying near our venue and looking for a coffee and pastry spot, you must visit Alon’s! Known for its high-quality, made-in-house selection of baked breads, cakes, pastries, gourmet sandwiches, fine cheeses, chocolates and more, Alon’s feels part bakery, part European market. Definitely recommend!
Oakland is Atlanta’s oldest public park and the final resting place of many notable citizens. Less than a mile from downtown, its 48 acres are full of treasures – history and gardens, sculpture and architecture, ancient oaks and magnolias. Morning walks through Oakland have long been a favorite of Jay’s, and Katie & Jay enjoy attending their annual events to learn more about Atlanta’s eternal citizens. If you’re a history lover, be sure to check out their guided tours daily at 10:30am or take yourself on one of their flexible self-guided tours (we highly recommend the African American Voices tour!) Oakland is dog and kid-friendly.
The National Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta offers moving, immersive exhibits that pay homage to the American civil rights movement and connect it to today’s global human rights issues. It is also home to the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. collection. A meaningful, inspiring way to spend a couple hours.
If you’re craving a pint, burger, or veggie spread, you can’t go wrong with Wrecking Bar! This pub serves locally sourced fare and is housed within a Victorian building that’s lived many lives. A Jay & Katie favorite for when we are missing England!
A charming French restaurant in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood, known for its Provencal-style cuisine, eclectic art, and a year-round patio. It was also where Jay met Katie’s mom, Tina, grandmother, Margot, and aunt, Mary, for the first time! As Jay’s luck would have it, a woman from a nearby table came over to tell the group how much he reminded her of Prince Harry. Ever the royalist, Margot’s eyes lit up and, in true Jay fashion, he quickly joked that he’d handed the woman a $20 to say that. Laughs were shared and, needless to say, Jay was welcomed with open arms!
*multiple locations* If you go to Talat Market, be sure to take a short walk over Katie & Jay’s favorite sweet spot for speciality soft serve with in-house made toppings. Vegan friendly!
One of our favorite spots for Persian food in the city! If you go, be sure to try to the charred tomato labneh and sabzi polo!
A moody, first-rate steakhouse and bar by Ford Fry, and one of our spots for special family dinners out. Reservations are required for dining, or you can try to grab a seat at the bar. For the ultimate indulgence, order their lobster risotto for the table.
