It's incredibly fitting, given our mutual love for words and music, that it was a choir concert and a blog post that brought us together. The year was 2014; the location, Concordia College. Isaac was a senior, and Katie a mere freshman. Both of us were performing in that year's Concordia Christmas Concert! Katie stood in the front row of Cantabile, the first-year women's chorus, ogling that tall senior in the Concordia Choir with the solo in "This Little Light of Mine." She mentioned that solo in an entry she wrote for Concordia's student-run blog: "No, not every word is memorized. No, not every step has been perfected. Yes, the three hour rehearsals have been exhausting. But when Isaac, a senior in the Concordia Choir, starts to sing the solo in This Little Light of Mine, all of my fears and fatigue fade away. I am reminded of the nights I spent sitting in those horrendously uncomfortable red seats listening to past soloists just like Isaac fill Memorial with their beautiful sound. I am reminded why we put on this concert: to spread the message of Christ and the joy of the holidays with with all of the little Katie Beedys of the world." Cheesy, she knows. But a few of Isaac's friends showed him that blog post, and he was touched by that freshman's words. He sent her a message over Facebook thanking her for her kind compliment. We did not speak again for several months. Fast forward to Easter Sunday 2015. Katie was sitting in her childhood bedroom at her parents' house when she received another Facebook message from that tall senior, Isaac Lovdahl: "Hey Katie, hope you're having a fantastic Easter! So, I hope this isn't too forward, but you just really seem like a great person and I was wondering... would you maybe like to get some coffee with me sometime this week or something?" We had our first date at Atomic Coffee in Fargo six days later, and the rest is history.
