Harris and Katie met right after they moved to Madison, Wis., in the summer of 2015. They met through a mutual friend, Michael Draper, who was Harris's roommate and Katie's office mate. Michael invited Katie to join him and some friends on a hike at Devil's Lake, a local state park. On the hike, Katie met Harris and was immediately smitten. With some prodding from Michael, Harris eventually worked up the courage to ask Katie out. The two went on a run in the Arboretum and had a delicious dinner at a Himalayan restaurant in town. Katie and Harris quickly realized what a perfect match they were. They both love running, hiking and the outdoors. They have complementary senses of humor and found they could talk for hours. A morning date at the Madison Farmers' Market might turn into an all-day affair, with Harris always suggesting things to do so the date wouldn't end. After four years of running, hiking, cooking, and lazy Sunday afternoons spent playing cards and reading books, Harris finally worked up the courage to ask Katie to marry him. SHE SAID YES! And here we are.
Harris proposed by recreating his and Katie's first date. First, they went to dinner at the local Himalayan restaurant. Next, they headed towards Monona Terrace (the same spot where they had their first kiss). Harris was so nervous, he convinced Katie to stop for drinks on the way so he could gather a little liquid courage. Once they arrived at the terrace, they walked around for almost 30 minutes. Katie was getting a little exasperated and Harris was being very picky trying to find the perfect spot, secluded but with a view, away from the bustling crowd. Harris was ready to call it a mulligan when the perfect spot opened up. As a full blood moon peaked out from the clouds, Harris summoned up all his courage and popped the question! Katie was stunned silent. After a moment that seemed eons long, she said yes!! The night ended with celebratory ice cream and ear-to-ear smiles. An amazing memory for both of them!
