Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Katie Vason and Greg DeVaney
Madison was incorporated in 1809 and has a large Historic District which protects its antebellum and Victorian homes. Katie’s Dad grew up in a house built in 1810 that once was a Stagecoach Inn when Madison was one of the largest towns on the stagecoach route from Charleston to New Orleans. The Joshua Hill home site and the Vason home are next to each other in the Historic District on Old Post Road. Nearby is the Episcopal Church of the Advent on Academy Street, built in 1844, where the wedding will take place. Consider adding Heritage Hall(1809) as a site of interest, a House Museum that can be toured. Wayne Vason's great aunt, Sue Reid Manley lived there, and her wedding dress and portrait of her in her wedding dress are in the Cultural Center History Museum.

A restored schoolhouse that dates to 1895, the center serves as the venue for Madison's performing and visual arts scene. Fun fact: Wayne Vason attended grammar school here, and both Lee and Katie have performed on stage in the auditorium. Don't miss the Andrews Family Legacy Exhibit, an exhibition that Wayne helped bring to life, four years in the making.
