George and Katie met on the dating app Tinder while in medical school in Syracuse, NY. George was a third year med student and Katie was in her first year when they went on their first date at a bar in Syracuse. One week later, George asked Katie to be his girlfriend, and she said no. But they kept hanging out, and one month later when they went on a hike to a waterfall, Katie finally said yes (to being his girlfriend)! They felt very comfortable around each other from their very first date. George (a city boy) was not scared away by Katie's photos of hunting deer and stories about growing up on a farm. Even though they come from very different backgrounds, they are perfect for each other!
George and Katie went to Acadia National Park in Maine in May last year, and Katie had an idea that George might propose at some point during that vacation. Each day they went on beautiful mountain hikes with gorgeous views, but George didn't propose! Katie was starting to get a little nervous. But then on one of their last days in Acadia, they hiked up a mountain overlooking a lake and the ocean beyond, and rested at the cliff at the top. After a little while, Katie started to get up to hike back down the mountain, but George said to wait and just enjoy the view a little longer. So they sat a little longer. Other hikers came and went along the cliff, and George just wanted to sit there and look at the view... Eventually, Katie suggested that they go to the other side of the cliff to look at the view from there, and once she walked over there and turned back around, there George was on one knee, asking "Will you marry me?" Of course she said yes! And then there was a round of applause! All of the hikers up on the cliff had watched it all happen!
We will be eloping on Maui in May! Don't worry, there are still plans to celebrate our marriage together later this summer!
