The Proposal

26 May 2024

Duncan knew he wanted to propose to Katie on a holiday break to Vienna, Austria. After surprising Katie with a very fancy 2 star Michelin restaurant the night before, Duncan decided it wasn't the proper romantic atmosphere. He was worried Katie would discover the ring though if he kept carrying it around. A tour guide for a walking tour mentioned how the palace grounds at Schönbrunn Palace are beautiful and generally not that crowded. When Katie gave Duncan the option between heading to the palace that day or going to an amusement park and beer garden, Katie was a bit surprised Duncan picked the palace. However, she still had no idea what he had planned. Upon arrival at Schönbrunn Palace there was a couple of hours to wait for the state room tour and about a hour to wait until the apple strudel show that Katie was obsessed with attending to learn the famous royal recipe. Duncan suggested a stroll around the palace grounds in the meantime. The palace grounds while absolutely stunning were more crowded than expected. Towards the back of the gardens stands a beautiful gloriette that overlooks the palace and the grounds. When Duncan discovered the people were able to access the top, he became very determined to take Katie up there. After figuring out how to buy a ticket and access the roof, Katie and Duncan were able to relax for a minute and take in the incredible view. Then Katie reminded Duncan that they needed to head down to make the apple strudel show. Before heading down from the roof of the gloriette Duncan suggested pausing in a private corner to take in the view one last time. There Duncan broke into a very romantic speech. It wasn't until Duncan said he had a question to ask and dropped to one knee though that Katie registered exactly what was happening. Katie barely let him get out "Will you marry me?" before enthusiastically saying "Yes!" multiple times. After some very happy photos, we still managed to make the apple strudel show with the biggest smiles on our faces as a newly engaged couple.
