We met through Bri, my (Katie's) sister, who works with Dj at Shakespeare's and has since she started there about 5 years ago. Neither I, nor Dj, remember the exact day we met, but it was because I went to visit Bri while she was working. We never really talked except for the usual, "Hey, how are you?". Each night after one of my visits to Bri, she would come home and tell me about Dj's crush on me, but I always brushed it off. My school's first holiday party changed all of that. We held our staff party at Shakespeare's and Dj was bartending. All night, as I kept debating, "Should I order another drink?", I'd stare at the bar, trying to decide. Dj would mistake those stares full of internal debate as flirtation. It wasn't until November that we started pursuing something, but that was the night Dj saw our potential.
Dj and I shared our second Christmas together with my family in my apartment that I rented by myself. It was pretty small and we easily filled the space with food and wrapping paper from our celebration together. After dinner and opening presents, we decided to go to Columbia's Magic Tree off Scott Boulevard. It's a large tree that is covered in Christmas lights for the holiday season. Dj took pictures of my family and I together. Once he finished, everyone took giant steps away from me, everyone took out their phones, and everyone said, "All right, now we need pictures of you two." Dj immediately crouched down to "fix his shoe". When he finished re-tying one, he pulled out my ring and asked me to marry him! I remember that he was so nervous he could barely get those words out. Of course I said yes. I love this man beyond words and am so grateful that I get to spend forever with him!
