While they both grew up only miles away from one another, graduated from the same college, and lived on the same street for over a year, Cody and Katie didn't officially cross paths until 2021. Like many love stories nowadays, their story started through a match on a dating app but they often say the beginnings of their story was a bit "twofold". The two had scheduled a date for the day after the 4th of July since they both had the following day off for work but their paths crossed a day early. Katie had recently joined a social club in Chattanooga called Common House. She loved spending time there with her friends and particularly loved spending time at the club's pool. Meanwhile, Cody's best friend, Joseph, had recently become Common House's in-house Sommelier. Cody would often go to visit Joseph while he worked. Common House hosted a 4th of July pool party and the two both ended up going without realizing the other would be there. Katie noticed Cody when he first walked over to the pool and introduced herself. They chatted for a while before going back to their friends to enjoy the rest of the party. The two both mentioned how excited they were for their date the next day and carried on their way. Later that evening, they would run into each other again at a local bar with their friends. Again, they were pleasantly surprised to run into each other twice in one day and would actually end up crossing paths again later that evening and the two have been together ever since. Their love story grew over the next three years. While on vacation with Katie's family, Cody had booked a private sailboat experience for them and her family to celebrate their third dating anniversary. After sailing for about 2 hours (and a lot of coordination leading up to this trip), the captain prompted everyone to take pictures while the water was calm. After they took a group picture, Maddie (Katie's brother's girlfriend) started taking pictures of Katie and Cody and shortly after Cody got down on one knee and proposed. The couple celebrated with champagne as dolphins put on quite the show around the sailboat 🥂
