How it all started

Katie: Cameron was a senior football player when I was a freshman at Cal High, and he was by far the cutest guy at school. I never had the courage to introduce myself to him, so when he left for college after that short year, I thought I'd never get the chance to meet him. It was December 28, 2007 and some friends and I went to a house party over winter break. The second I walked through the entry way, Cameron's presence immediately caught my attention. I knew that this was my shot to talk to him as I had failed to do so three years before. As I slyly hung around his friends that I knew, after some short time, I made my way to him. The second he looked at me, I could have fainted, I was so full of butterflies. From that moment on, we didn't leave each other's side at that party. We exchanged numbers at the end of the night, and we texted each other until the sun came up. I knew my life had changed forever that night, I just didn't know exactly HOW much it it had changed. Cameron: I'll never forget the first time I saw Katie at Fitness 19 in the marketplace, I didn't know her but I definitely wanted to. It wasn't until years later, at a party over Christmas break, that I met her at a friend's house we were at that night. Katie says she made the first move, but I knew what I was doing, and my plan went perfectly! I'll never forget the 12 hours after I met Katie. We talked on the phone and went back and forth with text messages all night long, talking about anything that popped into our brains. It was an instant connection that would stand the test of time and distance for the next 10 years.

Love is in the air

Katie: Literally, love is in the air. And by air, I mean airplane. For eight years, Cameron and I lived in different places. Between Chico, San Ramon, Reno, San Diego, Pleasanton, Long Beach, and Dublin, I cannot begin to count how many flights we took to see each other over the years. Whether it was a flight planned in advance, or one booked last minute, we couldn't stand to be apart. I'll always remember the time Cameron first told me that he loved me. It was the middle of the night and we had been talking for hours. I could hear his heart beating out of his chest! I remember telling him to "just say it" because I knew in my gut what he wanted to say. In April 2013, Cameron moved to Southern California, which meant we were only 100 miles apart, door-to-door. That is until our paths brought us to the City by the Bay, San Francisco. Living in our cute little Marina apartment for the last two and a half years have been the best years of my life. Cameron: The first time I told Katie I loved her will forever be imprinted in my mind. It was in the middle of the night while we had been talking for what seemed days. My heart was pounding and I'm pretty sure Katie knew what I was about to say. It was a night I'll always remember. From then on, love was in the air. Love was in the airplane, on the bus and in the car while we bridged the gaps between us. San Ramon, San Diego, Chico, Reno, Dublin, and Long Beach presented so many obstacles for us before we finally settled in San Francisco. I can't even remember how many miles I traveled throughout the years, but I love all the memories we made in so many cities. One of the things I love most about Katie is how she gets me to try new things that I'd never do on my own. Once we started traveling and doing activities I'd never thought about doing I knew I had to put a ring on it.

The proposal

Katie's story

It was a Sunday in July and we were headed out to Sausalito for brunch with friends. A few days earlier, I had gotten my nails done with girlfriends who insisted I get gel, but I went with regular polish because I was that confident there would be no proposal in my immediate future. Ha! Fast forward and Cameron and I are in the car on the Golden Gate. I open the glove compartment to get a napkin and immediately, I saw an envelope with Katie on it (sorry Cameron!). I was SHOCKED. Was he proposing?! He played it off so nonchalantly that for a second I thought he was just being cute writing me a love letter. I tried to read the letter but I couldn't because I was shaking, crying, and trying to breathe. Once I got done "reading", we parked at this point on the water with gorgeous views of San Francisco. I blacked out for most of what Cameron said, but once he got down on one knee and opened the box with the most perfect ring, I screamed YES! I can't explain the feeling and the overwhelming emotion of that moment. Thank you to Nathan, Nicole, Ashley, and Dave for capturing the best moment of our lives! So then I discovered we weren't actually going to brunch to Sausalito, and we were going to head back to the city to bar hop and celebrate! When we parked the car, Cameron told me to go out to our backyard. The water works started (again). Our families and best friends had set up a surprise party while the proposal was happening, and it couldn't have been a more perfect celebration. It truly meant the world to have everyone there! I still smile ear to ear every time I think about it. Major props to Cameron for planning the best proposal day. I cannot wait to marry you!

The proposal

Cameron's story

So we were in Chaing Mai, chopping down sugar cane in the jungle to feed elephants. It's 90 degrees and humid out, we're covered in sweat and flies and Katie is smiling ear to ear. It was at this exact moment that I knew I wanted to spend my life with her. So fast forward to July and I have the ring, I have the perfect spot to propose and I'm blessed with family and friends that put together a surprise party for Katie and me back at our apartment in the city. So it's the morning of and we have a plan to not raise suspicion. Katie and I are to head to Sausalito to meet Dave and Ashley for brunch. As we're driving over the Golden Gate bridge Katie finds the letter I wrote her in the glove compartment. (that wasn't supposed to happen but oh well) So I'm freaking out that she knows, but we continued on to Cavallo Point (the proposal point). Luckily Dave, Ashley, Nathan and Nicole had kept the spot totally clear of people and figured out where to hide to get some great pics! From there it was a bit of a blur and I only remember a little bit of what I said to Katie, but luckily after I got down on one knee she said yes! It was hands down the best day of my life and the surprise party made it even better to get to share the day with family and friends.
