Bryn Meets Katie

Bryn and Katie both grew up in Sitka, Alaska, yet they never met throughout their school days. Katie first caught Bryn's attention in 2014 as he was chasing down her fly ball over his head in left field. A simple way to earn respect, ladies ands gents. Throughout that summer, they became acquainted with each other through mutual friends and an interest sparked. Katie went back down south to finish her degree at the end of summer and it wasn't until the following year that they met again. A slow pitch softball trip to Juneau (Rainball) that summer sealed the deal for the two and the rest is history.

Serendipity

Why Wait? It's been a long time coming.

Bryn and Katie have been inseparable since that fateful summer in 2015. Since then, Katie moved into Bryn's life (and his house) quite quickly. Together they went through the trials of newly sharing a space, losing loved ones, a jealous doggie, long distance (international) dating and traveling, remodeling, job changes, multiple coaching gigs, returning to school, and of course, the ebb and flow of daily life. Katie has been steadily whittling away at pre-requisites for graduate school since 2016 with the help of Bryn. This past winter, she accepted a seat in the University of Utah Physician Assistant Program located in Salt Lake City. Katie will be moving to SLC in April for a 27 month program. With the exception of a road trip to drop her off, Bryn will remain in Sitka to hold down the house with queen Millie-dog. When Bryn proposed to Katie in late January, they had initially planned to wed in August 2020. As the days & weeks went by following their engagement, they kept going back to one thought, why wait? So, with the support of their closest family and friends, they decided to move the big date up to April 6, 2019. Only a mere 16 months ahead of their first date! It wouldn't be completely true to say it hasn't been a scramble at times, but for the most part, everything has fallen into place for their big day following that decision. They decided to keep this event a small, private gathering to better enjoy all of the moments leading up to the big day while at the same time, they slowly count down until Katie leaves. It's been difficult for Katie and Bryn to not invite all of the people who have touched their lives, both as a couple and individually. That being said, there is a time and place for everything and they want to celebrate with ALL of you!

An Unconventional Celebration

16 months Later

With April 6, 2019 officially set as their wedding date, Bryn and Katie chose an uncommon way to celebrate with all of their people - by bringing back August 2020. They have decided to throw a celebratory party in Sitka, complete with family and friends from near and far, for a less traditional reception. They aren't exactly sure what they picture this event being like in comparison to the vision of a traditional reception, but they are sure it will be worth your time. Friends and family from a far - what better excuse to make a summer trip up (or down) to Sitka! If you choose to come, make it a few day event and do some sight seeing from the ocean front up to the surrounding mountains. There won't be the same stress as with a traditional ceremony and reception (or school, as it's during a break) so there will be plenty of time to enjoy time with Katie and Bryn while you're here. For friends and family in town, see you there! This event is not only about celebrating Bryn and Katie's love for each other, but more than anything, it's about celebrating all of you and how important you are in their lives as individuals and as a couple. Who says you shouldn't celebrate more than once?!
