Every great love story begins with two people, being at the right place, at the right time, by complete chance. For us, it all began on last day of 7th grade on the school bus, where Katie happened to be riding home with a friend that day. There Katie and Brent would meet for the first time and thus beginning a great friendship. Little did they both know what was to come in just a few short years.
Never revealing how he really felt about Katie, Brent decided to take a leap of faith and ask her to the homecoming dance. In the 10th grade locker bay, there he stood with a pumpkin spice latte and flowers in (a bit of a shaky) hand, ready to take his chance. She said yes of course - she too had been hiding her feelings for Brent.
After hitting it off at the homecoming dance and weeks to follow filled with flirting, Brent asked Katie on their first official date. Courtesy of a ride from Brent's future mother-in-law and the combination of Uncle Julio's and Taken 2, they knew they found something special in one another. Over the next three years, there were many more dates, numerous homecoming dances, and a relationship filled with so much love. They both could have never anticipated finding each other so early on. No one said high school relationships were easy, but growing together and sharing those experiences was like nothing else.
Even before ever knowing one another, both Brent and Katie dreamed of being Hokies. On December 12th, 2015 they both received the letter of acceptance to Virginia Tech which would entail an entire new adventure together. Yet again, no one said college relationships were easy, but what Brent and Katie cultivated in those four years together was nothing short of remarkable. A second home, forever friends, many late nights, and memories that will last a lifetime.
From high school, to college, and beyond with a lot of hard work and a whole bunch of love, they never took their relationship for granted and how lucky they were to have found one another so early in life. Through years of growing up together, the ups and down, the good and the bad, they always stood by each others side with love and support. When you come across something special, you never let it go.
On July 24th, 2020, Brent got down on one knee at the Lincoln Memorial and made Katie the happiest girl in the world. There were many many many (happy) tears, speechless smiles, and a moment that had been anticipated for 8 years. Now on November 6th, 2021 they will say yes to forever, solidifying a future they always dreamed of.
