How We Met

Anyway, this ticketing system...

In August of 2013, Bill started working at Artistry, where Katie was working as a production assistant. Their desks were next to each other in the back of the office, and they naturally started taking social breaks from work to talk about anything from theater, to movies, to video games, to any number of nerdy topics. When Bill was explaining his reasoning for a why a Legend of Zelda theme wedding works so perfectly, Katie was thinking how grateful she was that she didn't love this goofball. Life continued at Artistry and Katie and Bill grew closer and closer. One day, Bill had to move desks to the other side of the office. Thus the dark times began. On New Years Eve, Artistry was hosting a donor event and Katie and Bill were helping out. Once the event was in full swing Bill went to the office to do other work. Katie knew Bill being an introvert, likely went to office to avoid people and decided to seize the opportunity. Bill was more than happy to tell her all about the ticketing system that he had recently demo'd and Katie waited to see if there was any one still in the office. She decided that now was the moment and asked Bill, "Do you like me? Like more than a co-worker?" Without missing a beat, Bill responded without hesitation, "Yes, anyway this ticketing system...". Katie was now very uninterested in the ticketing system and felt the other topic was much more important. The two began casually dating and found they still liked each other outside the office and so they kept seeing each other and the rest is history.

The Proposal

Can we do the dishes first?

Bill convinced Katie he was going to make dinner at the end of the week, even though Katie had suggested going to a movie or ordering Buffalo Wild Wings instead. Since he was so committed to making dinner, Katie began to suspect that Bill was going to propose. Arriving home late due to work, Katie came to a cold, but delicious meal, a nicely dressed Bill and candlelight despite the late setting summer sun. Trying to act normal Katie thought at any moment Bill would propose...but he didn't. After dinner Bill suggested watching their favorite TV show, The Great British Baking Show. Katie thought it was a little weird, but sure, and that he would propose after...but he didn't. Instead, Bill suggested taking Buddy for a walk. Katie thought, "Outside, nighttime, the park, he'll propose there"...but he didn't. Dejected, Katie said she was going to go to bed when they got home. Bill asked Katie if she would help clean up the dishes from dinner. Because Bill & Katie believe that emotions are valid and communication is important, Katie told Bill she was upset because she thought he was going to propose. He asked why and while she vented, they put the dishes away! Bill then pointed to how cute Buddy was in the living room, so Katie went over to give cuddles. Bill walked over and said, "We had a great night - a nice dinner, our favorite TV show, we took our puppy for a walk...and this could be the rest of our lives" - and then finally he got down on one knee! Katie exclaimed, "You are proposing!"
