We met at Auburn University where we were both friends that would see each other around. Once we graduated, Richard moved to Atlanta to work at a CPA firm, and I remained in Auburn working at Chicken Salad Chick. It just so happened that my best friend also moved to Atlanta so of course I would come to the city and visit. Richard ran in the same circle as my friends so I would see him around here and there and began to create a friendship with him. Then comes my mom's 50th birthday party where Richard and some others drove to Huntsville to celebrate. Our friends teased Richard all night about "How was it meeting the in-laws?' Well that joke played itself out to be. Richard and I began to hang out a lot more in the following months and life had better plans for us. We began dating and immediately booked out first cruise of many to come. I am so excited that we have found eachother and can't wait to live a life full of adventures with my best friend.
We had talked about this day for a little while now but I did not think it would be happening anytime soon. Richard on the other hand, had another plan. We went to Huntsville, AL where Richard would ask my dad (already asked my mom when she came to Atlanta to visit) for my hand in marriage. Richard has said the most difficult part of that whole weekend was getting me away from my dad. We were like two peas in a pod. Wherever my dad was, I was right behind him. I had a dream that we would get engaged on our back porch where we hang out and have a lot of conversations, and honestly don't know if I had ever told Richard that in detail. He asked my mom for permission on that porch and he would happen to get down on his knee and ask me to marry him on that porch! I cried more than I ever had and eventually said yessss to a lifelong of happiness together!
We chose to get married in Huntsville for a couple reasons. One being that we are both from North Alabama... Huntsville and Gadsden. Even though I spent my childhood growing up there, Richard and his family would drive up to shop, eat, play sports and visit their Huntsville family on the weekends. Comes to find out we both have family ties to that city. We love getting to come home and spend time with our family and relax and Huntsville is the perfect place to get away from the city life and enjoy the small things in life.
