We met in 2019, when both Kati and Derek were still living in Houston, Texas. Kati was nannying and Derek was working offshore on oil rigs at the time. We both signed up for an online dating app, not thinking (but still hoping!) it would go somewhere. Fast forward to our first date getting TexMex in downtown Houston . . . and the rest is history!

We have been long distance ever since Kati moved back to Michigan for law school. And while some say distance makes the heart grow fonder, we've missed spending quality time together. So we've been using Spring Break as an opportunity to travel together and cross some places off our bucket lists. This Spring, we went on a ski trip to Austria with Kati's sister (Lisa) and Kati's brother-in-law (Nicco). There, on a mountain top next to a little ski hut, Derek got down on one knee and popped the question ---- and we've been on top of the world ever since! We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Austin!
